SaaS and what it means….to you.
User Experience
SaaS, or Software as a Service, is not a new idea, generally speaking. But it is an intriguing idea, one that is gaining steadily in popularity and use.
I’m not by any means an expert in SaaS, only a very interested observer. In general, SaaS seems to be most attractive to SME’s, or small to medium enterprises. I think that this can be attributed to a few different factors. The one to many model utilized for delivery has significant advantages over the traditional “one license, one client” model. Based on a pay-per-use, or monthly schedule, the cost of entry is significantly lower, and more evenly distributed than paying a large up front fee. This fact, coupled with the obvious advantages of web-based access and continuous service makes the idea of SaaS even more attractive.
While SaaS is steadily growing in popularity, it is still in its infancy. What I’m most interested in, from the User Experience vantage point is how people interact and use SaaS. Let’s talk about what you like about it, and what you don’t.
So, chime in and tell me what you like about the SaaS model (give examples if you could) and what you might like to see changed. Software as a service is a burgeoning business, and yet we can still affect change.
